Professor Rabee Tourky is one of the world's leading mathematical economists. For many years he has worked on understanding general market equilibrium theory when there are many commodities but with missing call and put options. More recently he has been working on finite games dubbed imitation games and computational economics. Currently, he is studying statistical/epistemic foundations of Bayesian games as well as novel piecewise linear estimation techniques. Professor Tourky has held professorial positions at The University of Melbourne, Purdue University, and The University of Queensland. He is widely regarded as one of Australia's most creative theoretical economists. He has also received awards internationally for his teaching of undergraduate and MBA students. He has a history of curriculum innovation, synthesising technical rigour with practical real-world economic insight.
Professor Trevor Swan, after whom this chair is named, was a foundation Professor of Economics at ANU and is arguably the most important economist that Australia has produced. His technical rigour, applied to critical real-world issues, such as economic growth, remain a hallmark of economics at the ANU.
